Conversations with God is a monthly publication designed to be a companion in praying for The Meeting House community. Here you'll find suggestions for how we can pray together for issues of common concern around The Meeting House and stay connected in praying as a community.  You can use this in your personal prayer time and we encourage you to set aside some time in your Home Church.

Prayer is at the heart of our relationship with God here at The Meeting House. For eight years now we have been producing this monthly publication to have our whole community partnering with us as we rely completely on God to make this ministry everything that he wants it to be. This is our second issue in this new email format as we strive to broaden the impact of this publication by having it reach more praying people.

Christian Ministry Born in Solitude

Christian ministry is more than doing good. Ministry is an act of service performed either consciously or unconsciously in the name of Christ. Ministry is Jesus Christ expressing his life through us. It is born, therefore, not in activity, but in solitude, where through the Spirit we experience the power of life from within. No one becomes a “minister.” Rather in trust we open ourselves to the Spirit so that Jesus Christ can express his ministry through us. Prayer and ministry, therefore, are indissoluble [incapable of being separated]. In the stillness of meditative prayer we are confronted by God’s loving claim upon us – the most intense intimacy a human can experience. To know this intimacy we have only to let go (emphasis added). Instead of relying on our own initiative, where we are in control, we discover that we are participating in what God has already initiated within us.

What should I pray and give thanks for?

Uptown Toronto

• Pray for our planned new Home Church launches that they will provide increased opportunities for our community to connect
• Pray for the process around the Richmond Hill launch and our search for a Lead Pastor
• Pray that the summer would serve as a time of relational growth with Christ and within our spiritual familyD

Oakville

• Give praise for the recent baptisms through a number of our Home Churches
• Give thanks for our parking team who have helped so much this past spring and are now getting a much deserved break for the summer
• Pray for our Elders to have a restful and reflective summer break

Downtown Toronto

• Pray for continued momentum around our site’s compassion focus – The Homeless
• Pray for rest and refreshment for Elders that have led Home Church in the past and plan to continue in the fall
• Pray for the leadership and incoming Elders as they prepare for this fall’s Home Church launches.

West Hamilton

• Thanks for the summer serve volunteers and all those pitching in to make our community times on Sundays work\
• Pray for support for those going through significant life events right now – major illness, job and school transitions, weddings, new children
• Pray for Elders refreshing over the summer, and for those readying to step into roles of spiritual leadership in the fall.

Ottawa

• Pray for safe travels and good rest and relaxation time for our folks who travel during this season
• Give praise for the amazing team of Home Church Elders and Sunday morning service Co-coordinators who have put in an incredible year of ministry at our site
• Pray for our upcoming site-wide camp time called SummerScape; that this would be a good time of reflection, connection, and enjoyment for our community
• Pray for Matthew House, our new branch of this residence for refugees starting up in Ottawa this year

Tricities

• Pray for leaders to emerge to complete the leadership team at both the Waterloo and Kitchener sites over the summer
• The Meeting House Waterloo and The Meeting House Kitchener will be launching in the next 9 weeks, pray for our volunteers both new and seasoned that they will have amazing personal growth experiences as new teams are formed
• Pray for our students who will be coming and going to various universities across the region.  Pray for healthy connections between these students and our local Meeting House sites

Mission 2

• Pray for Lead Pastors and Elders as we begin to implement the plan to have Compassion Advocates in every Home Church, that people will come forward to fill these roles
• Pray for the upcoming meeting with MCC Ontario where we will be reviewing our partnership agreement at the halfway point of Mission 2.
